Drumbuilding (Shamanic Drum)
Build your own shamanic drum
On these two and a half days I will guide you (max. 4 participants) in a traditional and respectful way, to build your own shamanic drum. These drums will work for all purposes, including sweatlodge ceremonies.
The drum is a powerful and sacred tool in the shamanic ways and building a drum is a sacred process in itself. That’s why I take only 4 participants per course, as it has the huge advantage that I can take very good care of each person’s individual process. We will include all four parts of you, the spiritual, the emotional, the intellectual and the physical. Also, we will include the four elements, the earth, the water, the fire and the air. Come take the journey and find out yourself.
Small groups
You have a great advantage from my principle to only work in small groups with mximum 4 participants. This way I can take very much care of you and your individual needs and wishes.
The strongest bond to your drum: Build it yourself
You will find out, that you will have a very special relation to your drum, if you build it yourself. Your connection will be as such of a mother or father to a child and that’s the way how the greatest power will arise when you are drumming.
Day one
On the first day we are going to have a drumming, all together on the big pow-wow drum. By that we tune into our intention and the building process. Also, we will use a part of our time during the building procedure by giving thanks and showing respect to the elements, the animals and trees who gave their lives so we can build these drums.
We start the practical work by choosing the pre-made frame (appr. 35 – 40 cm diameter) and the hide that we want to use. This will be done in a special way, a way that will establish a deep connection to your drum. The hide will most likely be stag or cattle, depending on what’s available.
Around noon we will take a break with some good and warm ecological food so that our bodies will get some nourishment too.
Then we’ll start to work on the drum frame which is pre-made by me (Peter). We will take all the time that feels right to each of you so that you can deepen the connection to your drum and make it look the way you want it. This will most likely be all that we will do on this first day.
Day two
The second day will be very special too. We will combine the hide and the frame to a unit of deep, strong and lasting connection. This will be like a wedding, where two spirits unite to become one. Again, we will take all the time that it needs to give birth to a new and powerful tool and partner. When the work is finished, each of you can then decide if you want to take the drum home or leave it at Wildheart-Center to dry until we meet again. I strongly recommend to leave the drum here as I will guide the drying process so that the drum will enfold the sound, that it’s most powerful in.
Before we finish, we invite you to a talking circle that gives you the opportunity to reflect on your process of this day and you can share it, if you wish to.
Homework: The drumstick
We have a variety of materials available for the drumstick and in order to give you the maximum opportunity to individualize, you will make your own drumstick at home, before we meet for the initiation ceremony.
Initiation of your drum
The next time we meet, will be the following Friday afternoon, where we will focus on the initiation of the drum in a very special ceremony which we will end with a common drumming, each on his/her own wonderful new drum.
Time schedule
As we will go with the flow and take care of each individual participant in the way they need it, I kindly ask you for some flexibility with respect to the time frame. It frequently happens, that we fully give in to the flow and we finish late in the evening.
Pricing
The maximum number of participants on this seminar will be 4 and the price is DKK 3.650,- per person which includes all materials, two ecological meals, as well as coffee and cake or snacks. Registration is required, as well as a downpayment of 200 Euro, which is used to buy the materials and secures your space in this workshop. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Peter by using our contact form.
